About Satsop School District

The Satsop School District's elementary school was constructed in 1902. It is one of the oldest operating rural schoolhouses in Washington State. While not a landmark, the buildings on site have great historical significance for the community and have kept most of its original fabric and details such as a bell tower with the original bell that still rings to signify the start of school and end of recess.

The schoolhouse is home to the District's 59 students, grades K-6. There are three classrooms that serve multiple grades: K-1, 2-3, 4-6. Higher grade levels transfer to nearby Elma School District. The schoolhouse also includes an addition constructed in the 1970s consisting of a small library area, a small multipurpose meeting space, administrative shared office space, and a small area shared for special education, maintenance, and storage use. On the same 3-acre site, there is a multi-purpose gymnasium building and adjacent covered play area. A 750-sf storage shed was added directly north of the schoolhouse and east of the gymnasium in 2023 for maintenance and archives use. The site is partially fenced and includes a playground with play equipment, a softball field, and open play areas. A non-paved student drop-off and pick-up loop is at the front of the schoolhouse, and parking is just west of the main building front entrance.

Capital Projects Program

After a substantial list of improvements have been identified by the school board members, faculty, and staff to improve the efficiency and usability of the school facilities, it was deemed that a Capital Project Program is necessary for The Satsop School District. The District hired Rock Project Management Services, L.L.C (RPM) as their project management and construction management consultant to guide the process.

The following preliminary scope of work items have been identified through an early planning process. The project team will be engaging with the community to further develop a detailed scope of work for each work item, as the design phase evolves.
