With school officially back in session at the Red Schoolhouse, Satsop students kicked off 2026 by doing something pretty special. They added their own voices to the school’s history.
Every student, from Kindergarten through sixth grade, wrote a letter to their future self. These letters will stay sealed for exactly 20 years.
There were no rules on what to write. Some students talked about their best friends right now. Others wrote about what they hope to be when they grow up. A few even imagined a future where their own kids might one day attend Satsop. Each letter was personal, honest, and decorated however the student saw fit.
This spring, the growing stack of pink, orange, yellow, blue, red, and green envelopes will be placed into a special location within the school itself, becoming a part of the building.
This moment is meaningful for the entire Satsop community. These students are the first to learn in the modernized Red Schoolhouse, and while the building has been updated, its history remains deeply intact. Now, these students get to leave their own mark on a school that has been loved for generations, creating a piece of history that will live on long after they have graduated.
